Soft Shell Crab - it's the season in NY !

It's soft shell crab season in the East Coast. Could not miss the opportunity to have a couple while here - went to Great NY Noodletown which has been raved for the crabs in nyt and yelp... Enjoyed them !

I thought soft shell was a different species of crab until I googled it and found out it's just regular crab in a different stage of their lifecycle. Crabs have to molt as they grow bigger.. i.e they have get out of their current shell and they've outgrown it. The soft shell crab is basically just the cran which just got out of their old shell. Their body hardens within a few hours of molting with a new shell if they stay in water. So it's tough to harvest them and hence not a year round delicacy.

Singaporean Food @ Lee Hou with Kuben and Lia

Kuben and Lia, two friends from university, were in San Francisco for a conference a couple of weeks ago. Took them to Lee Hou (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lee-hou-restaurant-san-francisco) on Clement Street for some good Singaporean Food. The singapore curry chicken was the best ever curry I've had !! The yelp reviews don't look so good, but I loved the food !!

Chinese Dinner on Sunday night with Levi and Greg

After Stern Grove yesterday, we decided to go have some dinner. As we were in the neighborhood, we decided to go to the Chinatown in the Richmond (Clement Street). We found this place around 5th and Clement - a Singaporean/Malaysian place, which I did not note the name (but its next to Genki, the japanese crepe place and exactly opposite of Burma Superstar)

We had the Black Pepper Crab - (entire big crab  - for $15.99, I think its a bargain as everywhere I have seen, Crab dishes usually cost a lot more) and we had the fresh Steamed Black Bass.

Lunch at Fog City Diner for Drew's Birthday

Went to lunch today at Fog City Diner (http://www.fogcitydiner.com/) in the embarcadero with the work peeps for Drew's Birthday Lunch. Its within walking distance from work.

I ordered the Salt and Pepper Fried Calamari and a Clam Chowder soup. I was surprised though that the clam Chowder came with solid clams in the shell rather than just cooked within the chowder. I don't really like clams in the shell.

Pictured below is the salt and pepper Calamari, Halibut over Vegetables and Memphis Style Pulled Pork sandwich and sweet potato fries.
