Not many of my high schools peers are in North America. While in Montreal, I managed to find a couple of them which I used to hang out in High School. Was great meeting people from the past and catch up on all the great times we have had (not that I am not having a great time now too... )
I've been asking people what food is very canadian and only available here and the two I've heard from everybody is Poutine and Maple Syrup. Last night went to try the famous poutine I have been hearing about - Poutine is basically just french fries with cheese curds with a brown gravy poured on to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine). Went to a very famous place in Montreal that serves it - La Banquise. This place is serving poutine since 1958 and got a lot of variations on the classique poutine. I had a poutine with onions and mergueze toppings. I tasted it and it's definitely not going on my list of favorite foods :)
