Trinidadian Food

They have a very big Caribbean community in the South Florida region. For lunch, I had Trinidadian food and it is the closest to Mauritian food I've ever had in the US (Dal Puri (exactly same as in Mauritius) & Curry) and the people eating there looked so much like Mauritians (difficult to explain.. but when I see Indians, I know they're not mauritians, but I'll know Mauritian Indians by their faces.. I had that same recognitive feeling for the indian-trinidadian that were also eating there), like lost cousins whose ancestors took the other boats rather than the boats to Mauritius :)

The Dal puri tasted the same as in Mauritius, but rather than single rotis, they make a huge roti and wrap the curry and all inside it. The dal puri was very filling with lots of crushed split pea inside and very hearthy.

Also, I had a Carrib Shandy, which is a mixture of beer and some fruit soda. It's not a speciality made drink as in most bars, but just sold in bottles like regular beers. It was delicious and enjoyed it with my goat curry and dal puri !

     

Dry Garam Massala Marinated Chicken Slices with Carrots, String Green Beans and Pearl Onions

Marinated some chicken in Garam Massala and some sesame vinaigrette dressing the day before and lightly cooked them in some cooking spray. It came out nice and dry and very spicy. Added up some carrots, String Green Beans and Pearl Onions to it at the end and here's the result. I've gotten back in the cooking groove these days and been trying and experimenting many new dishes.

Turkey curry leftovers = topping for fried pancit noodles and vegetables..

Turkey Curry for dinner... a change from the common Thanksgiving Dinner :)

Thanksgiving and I am working today and did not go to any thanksgiving dinner, but in the spirit of thanksgiving decided to cook a turkey dish variation.. Turkey Curry. Turkey is pretty dry and not as flexible as chicken in cooking. Got some strips of turkey breast, fried them out with salt, pepper and thyme. After that, simmered some pearl onions, tomatoes, garlic, thyme and curry and let it simmer with to a thick sauce before adding the cooked turkey and potatoes and the result is in the pic..

What I cooked for lunch - Lamb and tiny potatoes with rosemary

Decide to cook lamb for lunch today and I found these mini tiny potatoes that I love at trader's Joe. Sprinkled with some Rosemary and thyme, here's the result.

Posterous inspired Lunch - Ramen Noodles with Sunny Side Up Eggs and Spam..

In my daily posterous email today, one of the people I subscribe to had posted a picture of what she made for lunch (http://piggie.posterous.com/lazy-saturday-15). Ramen noodles with sunny side up egg on top (and spam that she did not have available at that time). I had spam, egg and Ramen and I made the same dish and indeed it was delicious !

Lunch at Lime Tree on 6th and Irving st

I had a great lunch at lime tree southeast asian cuisine restaurant today (http://www.limetreesf.com).

The place is very small and very easy to miss. The door is below a set of stairs and the restaurant is basically in a basement, but the food is very good. Every Saturday and Sunday, they have a crab special. We had the Singaporean Chili Crab, the Malaysia Laksa, singaporean curry noodles, Fried Rice (yeah.. very un-original) and Fried Corn Fritters.

Had great company for lunch - Deepti, Elia and Cristina. Deepti was treating me for lunch for a belated birthday treat! Thanks Deepti !

After lunch, we walked to Golden Gate Park, where SF Opera was performing for free.
