Garba and Dandiya Raas for Navratri @ Santa Clara Convention Center

This evening, I went to a Garba event in the South Bay at the Santa Clara Convention Center in celebration of Nav Ratri & Durga Pooja. One would never know you were in the USA at that event. There should have been well over 1500 Indians or so gathered at the event, everybody dressed up in their colorful traditional dresses and dancing Garba and Dandiya Raas. I tried Garba and it was pretty hard for me, but Dandiya Raas wasn't that bad and I managed it not too badly. Always great to go to these cultural events and immerse oneself in them.

Cooked today for the first time after 3 months !!

Today I did not want to eat out yet again. I have been only eating out for the past 3 months. So, decided to hit the grocery store, use the hostel kitchen and cook myself a nice Chicken Curry with Peruvian potatoes and Chilli. Came out pretty good and goes good with Peruvian loaf.

I survived the world's most dangeous vindaloo in La Paz, Bolivia !

I just got this tshirt for free after I finished my entire plate of supposedly the world's hottest vindaloo made with some 25 Bolivian chili peppers at the Star of Indian Curry House in La Paz, Bolivia. When I tried to order, they kept on discouraging me telling me that it's very very hot and that I might not like it and if I would like something else, but I persisted and ordered and it was in fact pretty hot, but nothing too unmanageable, as I do and can eat very very hot...

Friday night dinner with Bhavik and Pravin at Lahore Karahi

Pravin and Bhavik, two other Mauritian friends in the bay area came to the city yesterday night to go to the Asian Massive concert. We met at my place and decided to have an Indian dinner. My favorite Indian place in the city is in the tenderloin - Lahore Karahi (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lahore-karahi-san-francisco)  at the corner of Jones and O'Farrell. Unlike the other similar style Indian places in the city, Lahore Karahi cooks everything from scratch rather than stock sauces and stock meats mixed together + also it is BYOB without a corkage fee. We ordered
  • Tandoori Fish
  • Aloo Ghobi (potatoes and Califlower)
  • Chicken Karahi
  • Dal Massala
  • Naan
