Shanghai Noodles and Pan Fried Ahi Tuna Fillet for dinner

Too cold to go out tonight. Decided to stay in and cook something
simple. Had some shangain noodles in the fridge. Stir fried the
noodles with some carrots, peas, eggs, sprinkled with some chinese
chives and pan fried an ahi tuna fillet.. great easy little dinner !

Mauritian Dinner at Jay and Aruna's place in Hayward

This past Saturday, I was invited to Jay and Aruna's place in Hayward for a traditional Mauritian dinner. Aruna's mom, well as Pravin's mom and dad were visiting and they had decided to cook the traditional '7 carris' (7 dishes) as we call it in Mauritius with Puri. We usually serve these dishes for weddings or for religious ceremonies. We even had the fake banana leaves to eat it on. In the past it used to be real banana leaves, but with them getting scarce, now even in Mauritius they use the artificial leaves. But we had more than 7 dishes I think (we usually don't count the starch and the side accompaniments). Here are the dishes they cooked.

Rougaille - the red stuff, typical mauritian tomato dish
Sousou - the light green stuff, stewed chayotte
Songes - the black stuff, stewed leaves of taro
Cari Bari - Split peas fritters in curry
Dal
Giraumon - yellow stuff, pumpkin dish
achard Piments - Picked green chillies and apples
Takar - Tamarin Relish
Gros Pois - Lima Beans curry
Puri - Puffed deep fried bread

Burmese Food at Pagan Restaurant on Clement Street

Yesterday night, we had planned to do a bonfire at Ocean Beach, but Gilles went at 7:00p.m (still daylight) and told us that all the fire pits were already taken and nobody would share theirs. So we had to change plans. We (Deepti, Tamar and I) decided to eat on Clement St. We were driving by and saw the sign for Grand Opening of a new Burmese place on Clement - Pagan Restaurant. We decided to try it. It was worth it. Decor was very nice, food was very good, even though Service was not the best !  We had the Burmese Curry Chicken Noddle with Split Peas, Eggplants with dried shrimps, Fish Curry and Roti Patala and Chicken Gravy as appetizer. Here are some pics of the dishes we ordered...

Serene and Topher's housewarming party..

Serene and Tofer moved into a new house in sunnyvale and they had their housewarming party last weekend. Below are some snaps from the 'Cocoa Casa' housewarming party.

I was impressed by the doors - Topher has installed a biometric device to scan your fingerprints to open/close the door.

We had a game where we all got a piece of paper to write nouns ,verbs, abjectives etc.. at the end of the night, we used these random words to fill in a love letter. It came out pretty interesting. Attached is a pic of the complete love letter.

Singaporean Food @ Lee Hou with Kuben and Lia

Kuben and Lia, two friends from university, were in San Francisco for a conference a couple of weeks ago. Took them to Lee Hou (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lee-hou-restaurant-san-francisco) on Clement Street for some good Singaporean Food. The singapore curry chicken was the best ever curry I've had !! The yelp reviews don't look so good, but I loved the food !!

Mauritian Dinner at Jay's

I was invited to a dinner at Jay and Aruna's place a few weeks back. Jay and Aruna are Mauritians living in the bay area as well, in Hayward. Aruna had decied to cook Dholl-puri which is this mostly Mauritian type bread... i guess closest I can describe it to something in the american diet, is a tortilla stuffed with ground yellow plit peas. Preparation of dholl puri is tedious.. split peas have to be crushed and grinded, flour dough prepared and then mixture stuffed in the middle and then the whole thing roller pressed to keep the split peas in the hollow middle layer and when heat is applied, its suposed to puff up - anyways.. hard to describe accurately.. you need to try it to know :)  We had a nice vegetarian dinner, followed by entertainment provided in house by the children present :)

Ethiopian Food on Valencia St

A few weeks ago, I had to go to the mission to pick up parcel from Nazeem. We biked around the mission, had a drink at Elbo room and played some Pacman and then we decided to try the Ethiopian place on Valencia around 21st street. It was good decent food. We had the vegetarian combo and the meat combo I think.

Chinese Dinner on Sunday night with Levi and Greg

After Stern Grove yesterday, we decided to go have some dinner. As we were in the neighborhood, we decided to go to the Chinatown in the Richmond (Clement Street). We found this place around 5th and Clement - a Singaporean/Malaysian place, which I did not note the name (but its next to Genki, the japanese crepe place and exactly opposite of Burma Superstar)

We had the Black Pepper Crab - (entire big crab  - for $15.99, I think its a bargain as everywhere I have seen, Crab dishes usually cost a lot more) and we had the fresh Steamed Black Bass.
